I came across an article saying that the proposed WordPress 7 features have been planned. The new features that were never before on any of the older and the present version of WordPress would be included in the upcoming version. Its been quite a long time since themes.wordpress.net has stopped accepting new themes into the directory. And since it wasn’t that popular they have introduced a new place for the themes and that would be included under ‘extend‘ in WordPress.org which is similar to that of the Plugin directory.
